The countdown has begun for the anticipated release of the Huawei Mate 70 series this month. Recently, a Huawei executive emphasized on Weibo that the upcoming series would be the most powerful Mate models yet. The latest developments also hint at what design changes we can expect.
What will the Huawei Mate 70 look like?
Render images of the Huawei Mate 70 were shared on Weibo, revealing a significant design shift. The smartphone is expected to feature a camera setup similar to the Mate 50 series, launched in 2022. On the front, the device will likely offer a screen-to-body ratio in line with industry standards and a three-hole panel.
Another change will be in the display. Instead of curved edges seen in previous models, the Huawei Mate 70 is expected to adopt a flat panel, rumored to be 6.69 inches in size.
The Huawei Mate 70 is likely to feature a 50-megapixel main camera with a variable aperture and a 1/1.5 sensor size. In addition, it may include a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, suggesting the camera configuration of the standard model will remain largely unchanged.
The series is expected to consist of four models: Mate 70, 70 Pro, 70 Pro+, and 70 Ultimate Design. One of the notable upgrades in the new series is the shift from optical to ultrasonic fingerprint scanners, which provide a faster, more reliable scanning experience, especially with wet fingers. This technology shift has also been adopted by flagship models like the OnePlus 13 and Xiaomi 15.
