California-based xMEMS Labs has made a significant innovation in the field of wearable technology. The company has introduced the world’s thinnest speaker, designed specifically for wrist-worn devices. The micro speaker called “Sycamore-W” is only 1 mm thick, 2 mm long and weighs 150 milligrams. With these dimensions, it occupies a volume approximately 70 percent smaller than existing smartwatch speakers.
World’s thinnest speaker developed
xMEMS states that Sycamore-W is designed specifically for compact devices such as smartwatches and wristbands. The critical importance of weight and volume in wearable devices will make this new speaker attractive to manufacturers.

According to the company’s statement, this design offers certain advantages not only in terms of size, but also in terms of sound quality, durability and energy efficiency. Sycamore-W works with solid-state technology instead of traditional dynamic drivers. This system uses a very thin silicone membrane to produce sound.
In this way, both less internal volume is used and clearer and stronger performance is achieved at high frequencies. The speaker, which is also ambitious about durability, can withstand impacts of up to 10,000 g.
In addition, it offers component-level protection against dust ingress according to IP58 standards. These features will provide a significant advantage for smart devices used in outdoor activities and harsh conditions.
xMEMS plans to start mass production of Sycamore-W in the second quarter of 2026. So what do you think about this product? You can share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
