Around 4:00 a.m. on July 11, a Tesla driver lost control and crashed into a roadside lamppost on the Malatya-Elazığ highway near Turgut Özal Medical Center.
The force of the impact split the car in half and quickly caught fire. Driver O.U. (33) and passenger U.O. (31) died at the scene. Both were reportedly working as nurses at İnönü University Turgut Özal Medical Center.

Firefighters dispatched to the scene extinguished the fire, and paramedics and police conducted initial examinations. The bodies were sent to the Malatya Forensic Medicine Institute for autopsies. Ozan Uçar will be buried in Doğanşehir, and Uğur Oğraş will be buried in the Konak neighborhood of Yeşilyurt. An investigation has been launched into the accident.
Initial findings indicate that the vehicle veered rapidly and struck the pole, and the high force generated at the point of impact split the vehicle’s chassis in two. Even with advanced safety features, exceeding the speed limit significantly negates a car’s protective capabilities, making it impossible to defy the laws of physics.

Therefore, experts frequently emphasize that first-time drivers of these vehicles need time to become accustomed to the vehicle and its performance characteristics.
The investigation is examining the vehicle’s speed data, the condition of the battery pack, and the cause of the fire. Police officials stated that they will share their findings, and that a final report will be published following technical analysis.
