Sony has released the PlayStation Store data for August 2025. Traditionally released monthly, these lists reveal which games are most popular with players. August’s data shows that new releases, in particular, quickly rose to the top of the list, while some classics also maintained their popularity.
Most Downloaded PlayStation Games
The most downloaded game by PlayStation 5 players was the recently released Mafia: The Old Country. This new title topped the most downloaded game lists in both North America and Europe. Following it were notable titles like Grand Theft Auto V and Ready or Not.
This demonstrates both players’ desire to embark on new adventures and their loyalty to established and popular games. Long-standing titles like Forza Horizon 5 and Minecraft also maintain their popularity.
The situation is different on the PlayStation 4 platform. The most downloaded game in both regions is the classic Red Dead Redemption 2. This game has maintained its top spot years after its release, once again proving its strong player base. Other beloved games like Batman: Arkham Knight and A Way Out also appear on the charts.
Data shows that despite the rise of new-generation consoles, older-generation games still have a large audience. Players are expanding their existing libraries and continuing to play their old favorites thanks to backward compatibility.
