Apple is making a significant change with the new iPhone 17 series. Adaptive power mode, introduced with iOS 26 and the iPhone Air, is enabled by default on the iPhone 17. The company is automatically rolling out this feature to users with the new series.
iPhone 17 Comes with Adaptive Power Mode
Adaptive power mode is designed to manage the phone’s battery consumption during periods of above-average usage. When enabled, the phone’s power consumption is optimized.

The screen brightness is reduced by three percent, and the activity of background apps is limited. Low power mode also automatically activates when the battery level drops to 20 percent.
This feature is only available on iPhones with Apple Intelligence. The company says this system predicts when the user will need extra battery life based on recent usage habits and adjusts power accordingly. However, this mode does not affect the device’s performance during peak performance situations, such as using the camera or playing games.
Adaptive power mode is only enabled automatically on the iPhone 17 series. This feature is available on earlier models, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 Pro, which support Apple Intelligence. However, on these models, the feature must be manually enabled under Settings > Battery > Power Mode.
