Nissan has made a significant strategic change to the 2026 version of its popular mid-size SUV, the Murano. Front-wheel drive (FWD) has been completely eliminated from the model range, and all-wheel drive (AWD) has become standard equipment. Here are the details.
2026 Nissan Murano Changes
While front-wheel drive models typically provide adequate traction in cold climates, even with winter tires, and are more affordable, Nissan has shifted its focus to performance this time. Previously available only on the base SV trim level, the front-wheel drive configuration has been removed.

The new starting price for the AWD SV is $42,965, compared to last year’s front-wheel drive SV of $41,965. This represents a mere $1,000 increase, and the new entry price remains the same as last year’s AWD model.
Starting prices for the mid-level SL and top-tier Platinum trims remain the same as last year, at $48,055 and $51,095, respectively. Nissan has expanded the Murano’s feature list to include the latest driver assistance technology.
The 2026 Murano comes with ProPilot Assist 2.1, the brand’s latest hands-free driver assistance system. This system only operates on authorized highways. ProPilot Assist 2.1 is available as part of the Technology package on the top-tier Platinum trim.
A new Convenience Package has been introduced for those opting for the mid-level SL trim. This package includes luxury features previously exclusive to the Platinum trim:
- Massaging and Ventilated Seats
- Heated Rear Seats
- Gesture-Activated Power Liftgate
Nissan aims to elevate the 2026 Murano to a more ambitious position in both safety and luxury by making AWD standard and offering advanced technologies like ProPilot Assist 2.1.
