The Galaxy XR, Samsung’s long-developed and highly anticipated augmented reality headset, is finally being unveiled. The company announced it would develop a device in this field in 2023 and gave the first hints about its design when it unveiled the Android XR operating system in 2024. Samsung, which has remained silent about the project, known as “Project Moohan,” has returned to the spotlight with a new leak. The information shared by Android Headlines reveals the device’s name, specifications, and controller accessories.
All specifications of the Samsung Galaxy XR headset leaked
According to the leak, the device’s official name will be the “Samsung Galaxy XR.” Its design appears to be a combination of the now-discontinued Meta Quest Pro and the Apple Vision Pro. The Galaxy XR, which features an adjustable headband, essentially allows you to view the outside world through the cameras and is powered by an external battery pack. While Samsung’s previous teasers focused on the device’s voice commands and eye and hand tracking capabilities, new information suggests the Galaxy XR will also support two physical controllers, closely resembling the Meta Quest 3’s controllers.

The device’s specifications largely align with expectations. As Qualcomm announced in 2024, the Galaxy XR will be powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset. Software-wise, Samsung’s One UI will be running a customized version of Android XR. Shared screenshots show that Samsung has added its own apps, such as the browser, photos, and camera, but the overall experience is quite similar to Google’s pure Android XR. This suggests Samsung is taking a simpler approach to the software.
As previously claimed by Korean sources, the headset will feature a high-resolution 4K micro-OLED display for each eye. The device is expected to offer approximately two hours of battery life, offering similar performance to the Apple Vision Pro in this regard. However, there is a key difference: the Galaxy XR is significantly lighter. Rumors suggest the headset will weigh just 545 grams. This could offer significant ease of use compared to the Apple Vision Pro, which weighs over 600 grams.
The biggest unknowns at the moment are the device’s price and release date. Samsung stated in its Q2 2025 reports that it plans to release the headset sometime this year, but an official launch date hasn’t been announced yet. The device is expected to be quite expensive. Rumors from August 2025 suggested the Galaxy XR could cost between $1,700 and $2,800.
