Shelly has officially rolled out the Dimmer Gen4 across Europe, offering a compact way to smarten up existing lights. With updated protocol support and Matter certification, this upgrade improves on the Gen3 model in all the right places.
Shelly Dimmer Gen4 supports Matter and multiple protocols

This version of the Shelly Dimmer marks a notable step forward. It now supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Zigbee, giving it broader compatibility than its predecessor. Matter certification opens the door to easy integration with smart ecosystems like Apple Home and HomeKit.
No neutral wire needed for Shelly Dimmer Gen4
One standout feature of the Gen4 remains: it doesn’t require a neutral wire, making it more suitable for older homes. That said, a bypass is still recommended for lighting loads under 20W. Setup is relatively straightforward, especially for users familiar with previous Shelly products.
Versatile compatibility for different bulbs
The Shelly Dimmer Gen4 supports a wide range of lighting types. Whether you’re using dimmable LEDs or old-school halogen bulbs, the Gen4 can handle them.
Supported lighting types include:
- Dimmable LED lamps
- Up to 150W incandescent bulbs
- Up to 200W halogen lamps
Users can fine-tune fade time and dimming speed through the Shelly app, creating a lighting experience tailored to their space. Voice control support is also included, letting you adjust lights hands-free through popular assistants.
Compact design fits behind switches
Its compact size (38.5 x 43.5 x 17 mm) makes it easy to install behind most switch boxes. The Gen4 also sports a green shell, which helps distinguish it from older models. Despite the upgrades, it remains just as space-efficient.
Shelly Dimmer Gen4 available now in Europe
Currently priced at €41.13 down from the regular €45.70 the Shelly Dimmer Gen4 is now on sale in various European countries. No timeline has been shared yet for a North American release.
A smarter dimmer without the rewiring
The Dimmer Gen4 brings meaningful upgrades without overcomplicating things. With Matter support, Zigbee connectivity, and no need for a neutral wire, it’s a smart pick for anyone looking to modernize their lighting setup without tearing up walls.
