Sony has officially joined the 200MP club with the launch of the LYT-901 sensor, its first high-res mobile camera chip built for next-gen flagships. After years of trailing rivals like Samsung in the ultra-high-megapixel space, Sony’s LYTIA division is finally stepping into the spotlight with a sensor that promises more than just massive resolution.
Sony LYT-901 sensor specs focus on quality, not just pixels

Internally known as the IMX09E during development, the LYT-901 is built around a 1/1.12-inch sensor size just shy of the full 1-inch category. That still puts it near the top of the mobile imaging stack, especially when paired with native 0.7μm pixels.
Standard pixel binning is in play here, too. The LYT-901 supports:
- 50MP output using 2×2 binning
- 12.5MP output using 4×4 binning
This downsampling boosts low-light performance and cuts image noise, while still giving users the option to pull high-detail crops when needed.
Sony LYT-901 adds AI and Hybrid Frame-HDR tech
Where Sony starts to break away is in processing. The LYT-901 integrates on-chip AI, handling the flood of data from its 200 million pixels before it even hits the phone’s main SoC. That means faster capture, lower latency, and smoother HDR workflows something earlier 200MP sensors struggled with.
It also features Sony’s Hybrid Frame-HDR system, combining multiple exposure techniques to hit dynamic range levels over 100dB. The end result? Better detail in shadows, clean highlights, and fewer ghosting artifacts in fast-moving shots.
Sony LYT-901 enables 4x zoom without a telephoto lens
One of the most notable features is the sensor’s support for 4x high-quality in-sensor zoom. This is no digital pinch-and-pray the LYT-901’s “ISZ” (in-sensor zoom) method allows the phone to crop into the sensor’s core at up to 4x while maintaining clarity, even during 4K video capture at 30fps.
This technique could let manufacturers skip a dedicated telephoto lens entirely saving space and cost while still delivering zoom performance good enough for most users.
Flagship phones with Sony LYT-901 arrive in 2026
According to early reports, the OPPO Find X9 Ultra and Vivo X300 Ultra will be the first phones to showcase the LYT-901 sensor in 2026. Both brands are already known for pushing camera boundaries, and Sony’s new sensor gives them a compelling weapon in the premium photography battle.
A sensor built for speed, clarity, and serious zoom
The LYT-901 doesn’t just chase megapixel bragging rights, it rewires how flagship phones can handle high-resolution imaging. With AI-driven processing, HDR that works under pressure, and a zoom trick that cuts the need for extra lenses, Sony may have just redefined what a phone camera sensor can do.
