Fortnite, one of the most popular representatives of the Battle Royale genre, is preparing to elevate the player experience with a 5-person squad option. The game, which has been planning to break away from traditional team structures for years, may be on the verge of an update that will delight large groups of friends.
The Fortnite 5-person squad era is beginning
Leaks are constantly surfacing in the gaming world. According to information recently uncovered by data miners, a new mode called “Quints” is being added to the game. This new mode will join the existing Solo, Duos, Trios, and Squads options, allowing players to compete in teams of five.
The lines of code found indicate that this feature isn’t just a temporary trial mode but could be integrated directly into the game’s main playlist. This could herald a radical change in the dynamics of Battle Royale.
Reliable leakers, particularly on social media, have shared data confirming Epic Games’s move. The inclusion of the phrase “playlist_defaultquints” in the relevant code blocks reinforces the thesis that a fifth player will join the team.
As you may recall, the game’s developer, Epic Games, has previously followed a similar strategy. Three-player squads (Trios), initially introduced as a temporary mode in January 2019, became permanent after strong player interest and positive feedback. Now, a similar scenario seems likely to unfold with Fortnite’s 5-player squad mode.
This innovation is especially great news for groups limited to four players and forced to leave one of their teammates out. Furthermore, the intensity of the map’s combat and strategic planning could become even more chaotic and entertaining with the addition of a fifth player. While an official release date hasn’t been announced yet, the frequency of leaks suggests an update is not far off.
