Anbernic is back in the spotlight with its latest handheld, the RG477V, and it’s not playing safe. Replacing the RG406V, this new device pushes retro gaming performance further, showing off PS2 games at 4x resolution scaling and GameCube and Wii titles running at 3x all while keeping a buttery 120 Hz refresh rate intact.
Anbernic RG477V pushes limits with PS2 and GameCube titles

In a new showcase video, Anbernic demonstrated the RG477V handling God of War II and Metal Gear Solid 3 at 4x internal resolution, which is no easy feat. Meanwhile, GameCube and Wii games like Super Smash Bros. ran smoothly at 3x scaling. That performance level makes one thing clear: this handheld likely packs the Dimensity 8300 chip, not the weaker Unisoc T820 found in the RG Slide.
While Anbernic hasn’t officially named the chipset yet, the emulation performance speaks volumes. There’s no way the T820 could pull this off.
RG477V upgrades more than just raw power
Even if you’re not chasing frame-perfect nostalgia, the RG477V brings welcome improvements across the board. Here’s what stands out:
- 4.7-inch LTPS IPS panel with a clean 1280 x 960 resolution
- 120 Hz refresh rate for ultra-smooth motion
- Brightness peaks at 500 nits
- 1,200:1 contrast ratio
- Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E for modern connectivity
- USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode for 1080p external display output
The result? A device that doesn’t just emulate it feels current.
The display and features match its premium promise
The RG477V inherits the same crisp display as the RG477M, which means smaller bezels and sharper visuals. It’s not just about screen specs, though. With DisplayPort Alt Mode, the handheld can hook into a TV or monitor without needing a dock. And with Bluetooth 5.3, it doubles as a couch-friendly console, connecting multiple controllers at once.
Anbernic RG477V hits the sweet spot
Anbernic isn’t shouting specs from the rooftops, but actions speak louder. The RG477V looks like a serious upgrade, especially for players who want smoother PS2 and GameCube experiences without lugging around a laptop or modded console.
It’s bold, it’s fast, and it knows what it’s doing. The spice flows soon.
