The Volkswagen ID. Buzz has officially secured its place in the Guinness World Records after successfully completing an extraordinary global journey that spanned 92 countries across six continents. Led by driver and event organizer Rainer Zietlow, the electric vehicle embarked from the Volkswagen production plant in Hannover, Germany, on July 1, 2025. Over the course of 445 days, the ID. Buzz demonstrated the long-distance endurance of modern battery-electric technology by traversing nearly 100,000 kilometers without encountering a single technical failure, setting a new benchmark for the most countries visited in a single electric vehicle expedition.

The Expedition Displays Remarkable Reliability
Rainer Zietlow managed the entire operation, which required precise logistical planning for both road travel and 16 separate maritime crossings. Throughout the 99,767-kilometer trek, the ID. Buzz faced diverse climate conditions and varying terrain, yet the vehicle remained operational throughout the entire duration. 
This performance serves as a crucial data point for automotive engineers studying the long-term viability of electric platforms under extreme stress. Upon returning to Germany, the record-breaking vehicle was showcased at the IAA Transportation fair, where the official certificate was presented to the team.
Technical Specifications Ensure Consistent Performance
The vehicle utilized for this record-breaking attempt was a standard production long-wheelbase Volkswagen ID. Buzz Pro, equipped with an 86 kWh battery pack. 
Designed to provide a range of up to 480 kilometers under WLTP standards, the van utilizes 200 kW fast-charging capabilities to minimize downtime. These technical foundations were instrumental in managing the logistical demands of a global tour. 
Following the conclusion of the trip, independent testing conducted by TÜV Nord confirmed that the battery health remained exceptional, proving that the hardware is highly resilient even after nearly 100,000 kilometers of intensive use.
