Nothing OS 5.0 Launched: Latest Updates and Model Support

Nothing OS 5.0 is officially here with Android 17. Discover which models are supported, the new features, and the full update schedule for Nothing devices.

Nothing has officially announced the global release of Nothing OS 5.0, a major software upgrade built on the Android 17 operating system. The rollout officially commenced on October 12, 2026, with the Nothing Phone (3) serving as the first device to receive the firmware. This update introduces significant interface refinements, advanced artificial intelligence integration, and enhanced system stability. As the company begins this transition, it has simultaneously outlined a comprehensive roadmap for its remaining product lineup, signaling a new chapter for the brand’s software ecosystem while phasing out support for several older hardware models.

    • Nothing OS 5.0 introduces an Android 17-based interface with a completely redesigned Control Center.
    • The update includes a dedicated application for advanced Glyph interface customization and expanded widget options.
    • The company has officially excluded the Nothing Phone (1), Nothing Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1 from the Android 17 update cycle.
    • The rollout for various models, including the Phone (4a) series and Phone (2a) variants, is scheduled to conclude by January 2027.

Nothing OS 5.0 Offers New Features

The transition to Nothing OS 5.0 represents one of the most substantial overhauls for the Nothing user interface to date. Central to this update is the revamped Control Center, which aims to provide a more intuitive navigation experience. Beyond visual changes, the operating system incorporates deeper AI capabilities, allowing for smarter device interaction and predictive task management. Furthermore, the update provides users with advanced tools to develop personalized applications, fostering a more versatile software environment tailored to individual requirements.

    Glyph Interface Functionality Improves

A significant highlight of this release is the introduction of a specialized application dedicated to the Glyph interface. This feature empowers users to manage and customize the iconic LED light patterns on the rear of their handsets with unprecedented ease. By simplifying the management of these lighting arrays, Nothing ensures that users can effectively utilize the visual notifications and status indicators that define their hardware, thereby increasing the utility of the device’s unique physical design.

    Support Roadmap Determines Device Eligibility

As the company moves forward, it has established strict boundaries regarding hardware compatibility. The Nothing Phone (1), Nothing Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1 will not receive the Nothing OS 5.0 update, marking the end of their primary software support cycle. For supported devices, the deployment schedule is rigorous. The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro and standard Phone (4a) are slated for a stable release in early November, followed closely by the Phone (3a) Pro and Phone (3a) models.

Future Updates Are Scheduled for Next Year

The distribution will continue throughout the winter months to accommodate the remaining supported devices. Users of the Nothing Phone (2a) and Phone (2a) Plus can expect their stable builds by mid-November. The Nothing Phone (3a) Lite is scheduled for distribution at the end of December. Looking into the new year, the Nothing Phone (4b) will enter an open beta phase in mid-December, with a full public release arriving in mid-January 2027. Finally, the CMF Phone 2 Pro is expected to receive the Android 17 update by the middle of January, completing this phase of the company’s software expansion strategy.

We are curious to hear your thoughts regarding the company’s decision to discontinue support for earlier models like the Phone (1) and (2). Do you believe this move is necessary for the evolution of the software, or should older devices remain supported for longer? Share your perspective in the comments section below.
