Marvel and Sony Pictures’ eagerly awaited new Spider-Man film continues to make headlines. Recent reports reveal that Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026, has added a major name to its cast.
Jon Bernthal Joins the Cast of the New Spider-Man Film
Jon Bernthal is widely known for portraying the ruthless vigilante The Punisher (Frank Castle) in Marvel’s television series. He first appeared as Frank Castle in Netflix’s Daredevil series and later starred in the lead role in The Punisher, which ran for two seasons and centered around the character.

According to the latest reports, Jon Bernthal has officially joined the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, reprising his role as The Punisher (Frank Castle) in this new Spider-Man film developed jointly by Sony and Marvel.
The lead role will once again be played by Tom Holland. The director’s chair will be occupied by Destin Daniel Cretton, best known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Filming is scheduled to begin this summer in the United Kingdom, and as previously mentioned, the movie is set to premiere on July 31, 2026.
The plot of the film remains a mystery for now. However, some rumors suggest it will feature a wide range of villains — from crime lords to alien symbiotes. There are even claims that various versions of the Hulk might make an appearance.
So far, the only confirmed details are that Zendaya and Jacob Batalon will return as MJ and Ned. However, it’s unclear how significant their roles will be in the story. Sadie Sink, best known for her role in Stranger Things, is also joining the project as one of the important new cast members.
The inclusion of a more grounded and street-level character like The Punisher indicates that the film might adopt a more down-to-earth tone. Unlike most superheroes, the Punisher fights with fists, blades, and firearms — and he might find himself facing a threat as formidable as the Hulk in the upcoming story.
