A few days ago, WhatsApp introduced a voice transcription feature, bringing a functional tool for voice messages. Now, the platform is rolling out a practical shortcut for its emoji reactions feature.
WABetaInfo discovered that it will soon be possible to use a new shortcut to respond to messages from your family and friends. Testing for some new interactions is currently underway in the Android beta version of the app.
WhatsApp Makes Emoji Reactions Easier
The new feature was spotted in the Android 2.24.24.24 beta version of WhatsApp. Its functionality is straightforward: you’ll now be able to open the reaction tray simply by double-tapping a message. Below is an example screenshot shared by WABetaInfo.
Currently, when users want to add emoji reactions to a message on WhatsApp, they need to long-press the message to display the emoji tray. Since this method isn’t particularly intuitive, the platform is addressing feedback and focusing on improving the experience.
WhatsApp has announced that the old functionality will still be available. In other words, while you can use the new double-tap shortcut, you’ll also have the option to access emoji reactions by long-pressing a message as before.
The goal is to keep both shortcuts active, allowing users to choose whichever feels more convenient for them.
What do you think about WhatsApp’s new emoji reaction shortcut? Would you prefer this double-tap method, or do you stick with long-pressing?
