Trump’s tariffs will put a ceiling on prices!
The Donald Trump administration plans to introduce new tariffs on imported goods in January. These tariffs will be applied at increasing rates of up to 60 per cent, specifically on products from China. The aim of the new regulations is to bring production back to the US. However, this can seriously affect the prices of electronic products such as computers and graphics cards.
Tech giants such as Nvidia and AMD are trying to get their products into the US market before 20 January to avoid these new tariffs. It is reported that the production and shipment speeds of the Nvidia RTX 5000 series and AMD Radeon 9000 series cards, which are expected to be announced at the CES 2025 event, have been increased to avoid being affected by this wave of tariffs. However, these efforts can only provide a temporary solution.
For example, the starting price of the RTX 5090 graphics card is expected to be $1,799. However, it is thought that this price may exceed $ 2,500 after tariffs come into effect. Moreover, not only graphics cards, but also other electronic products such as laptops, smartphones, monitors and game consoles may experience significant price increases.
Although Nvidia and AMD procure graphics processors from giants such as TSMC and Samsung, cooling systems, circuit boards and other components are usually produced by China-based companies such as Foxconn and BYD. AIB (Add-In Board) partners such as Asus, MSI and Gigabyte also carry out most of their production and assembly processes in China. This draws attention as a factor that increases the impact of tariffs.
