WhatsApp is working on a revolutionary translation feature for iOS users. Designed to maintain end-to-end encryption, this feature will significantly simplify communication between users speaking different languages.
Automatic Encrypted Translation Debuts in WhatsApp Beta
In previous beta versions, users had to manually select and translate messages one by one. However, the iOS 26.11.10.70 beta released via TestFlight reveals that WhatsApp is preparing to support automatic message translation in 21 different languages. This new tool aims to eliminate the complexity of multi-message translation.

Under the new system, users will select their source and target languages. Since all processing occurs locally on the device, users will be required to download specific language packs. By leveraging Apple’s Translation API, messages can be translated instantly without an internet connection. Because no data is sent to third-party servers, conversations remain entirely private.
Seamless Integration in Individual and Group Chats
Once automatic translation is enabled, incoming messages will instantly convert to the target language. Users can still view the original message or revert the translation via the context menu at any time. While the system is designed for both individual and group chats, there is a catch for groups: all participants must send messages in the same language for the auto-translation to trigger. Messages in a different language within the same group will not be translated. Additionally, the “Channels” feature will not support translation for now.
The number of available languages will depend on the iOS version installed on the device. Older iOS versions that do not support all language packs may offer fewer than the standard 21 options. New language packs released by Apple in the future will be immediately integrated into WhatsApp.
Currently in development, this life-saving feature will be rolled out to all users in a future update once testing is complete.
