Apple has announced a series of new features coming to existing AirPods models as part of WWDC 2025. These features, which will be available with new software updates, include notable improvements for content creators and everyday users.
AirPods models will offer new features
One of the most notable new features is the addition of camera control functionality to AirPods. The remote shutter feature, familiar from the wired EarPods era, is now available on AirPods.

When the Camera app or compatible third-party apps are open on an iPhone or iPad, users can take photos or start and stop video recording by holding down the AirPods stem. This feature offers significant convenience for content creators who take group photos using a tripod or record dance and music performances.
Another important innovation is the studio-quality audio recording feature. AirPods can now be used as a wireless lapel microphone. Thanks to the H2 chip, beamforming microphones, and AI-powered audio processing, users can record clear, isolated, and natural audio even in noisy environments. This feature will be available on various platforms, including FaceTime calls, voice notes, video conferences, and compatible camera apps.
Among the new features are sleep detection, which automatically pauses media when the user falls asleep, and automatic AirPods switching with CarPlay, which enhance daily usability. This allows AirPods to automatically sync with car speakers, enabling users to enjoy uninterrupted audio without having to switch devices.
