Android 15 enables wireless charging via NFC!
A new feature called “NfcCharging” was discovered in the Android 15 Beta version. According to the information provided, this feature will allow Android phones to be wirelessly charged by utilizing NFC technology, which is commonly used for purposes such as contactless payments and file sharing. It is reported that with this innovation, phones will also be able to charge other devices that support wireless charging.
According to the information received, the NFC charging feature will only have a power capacity of 1W, which is relatively low. Accordingly, it may take approximately five hours for a battery with a capacity of 5,000 mAh to fully charge. Therefore, this feature may be more suitable for devices with lower battery capacity, such as headphones or smartwatches, rather than smartphones.
Google wants to introduce an important innovation with Android 15 by adding NFC Wireless Charging support.
Whether this new NFC charging feature will be available on all phones running Android 15 or whether manufacturers need to make special arrangements in the NFC hardware is not yet known.
If this feature can provide charging speeds higher than 1W, it could replace the Qi wireless charging standard. This could encourage smartphone manufacturers to adapt to this innovation. We’ll see about that.
The beta testing for Android 15 is expected to conclude in July. Subsequently, it is expected to be released between August and October. Initially, it will be available for Google’s own smartphone models, followed by other manufacturers starting their distribution efforts.
