The handheld console market, once overshadowed by the advent of smartphones, saw a resurgence with the introduction of Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck in 2017 and 2021, respectively. Despite the leaks, Valve developer Pierre-Loup Griffais stated that there are no plans for such a device at the moment. Reports even suggested that the launch of the product might be postponed to 2025 or later.
However, a recent development indicates that Valve is looking to release an enhanced version of the current console before Steam Deck 2, as a device fitting this description has recently surfaced on the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) website. While detailed information about the device is scarce, the initial details suggest that it will come with Wi-Fi 6E.
According to reliable industry insiders, Wi-Fi won’t be the only upgrade in the new version.
