ElevenLabs, which has made a name for itself with its AI-powered audio technologies, has expanded into music production. The company has introduced Eleven Music, a new tool that can create songs with vocals and lyrics. Content created with this system is reportedly suitable for commercial use. Previously working exclusively with speech synthesis and translation, ElevenLabs has now ventured into text-based music production for the first time.
AI-powered music production tool developed
Eleven Music allows users to create music from scratch. The company stated that the tracks produced are created using models trained solely on licensed data and can be used in commercial projects without any legal restrictions.
Sample songs shared with the launch were offered in a variety of genres. While the style of some tracks evokes names like Dr. Dre, N.W.A., or Kendrick Lamar, the system does not allow users to directly attribute commands to these artists. When users use phrases like “Linkin Park-style,” the system rejects these requests.
Song production is completed in a few minutes. Tracks created based on user-supplied text demonstrate the capacity of AI to convey style and emotion. One example included a track created with the command, “A slow, emotional rock song in Turkish. With intense vocals and melancholic melodies, it tells the story of someone who has lost a loved one and is struggling with grief and memories.”
The company partnered with two major digital music publishing platforms to train the system. As part of the partnership with Merlin Network and Kobalt Music Group, only content approved by the artists is used to provide training data to the AI.
Merlin represents artists such as Adele, Nirvana, Mitski, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Phoebe Bridgers. Kobalt represents Beck, Bon Iver, and Childish Gambino. Kobalt stated in a statement that the use of training data requires the explicit consent of each artist.
