Apple is preparing a major software update for AirPods. The company is rumored to add real-time translation to its wireless headphones. This new feature will allow users to hear foreign languages instantly translated into their own language.
AirPods may soon offer live translation
Apple’s new translation feature will work similarly to the system offered by Google’s Pixel Buds. However, instead of the user having to activate Siri or another assistant, AirPods will automatically detect the language spoken and translate it.
Google’s Pixel Buds series has offered live translation support since 2020, and this feature put the headphones a step ahead of Apple’s AirPods. Apple introduced the Translate app with iOS 14, but did not integrate this technology into the AirPods ecosystem.

The new feature will be one of the latest innovations Apple adds to AirPods. In 2024, the company added hearing tests and non-medical device hearing aid functions to AirPods Pro models. In addition to these functions, the live translation feature could make AirPods more indispensable in daily use.
Apple is also rumored to be developing new health-focused features for AirPods. There are claims that a heart rate sensor could be added to the headphones, as in the Beats Powerbeats Pro 2 model.
