Amazon has spent record amounts of money for the Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, which will be released on Prime Video next September. Jeff Bezos must be a big fan of this series. Because there is no other explanation for spending so much money. It’s not an ordinary amount. We are talking about the highest amount in the history of TV series and movies.

How much did Amazon pay for the Lord of the Rings series?

The Lord of the Rings series will premiere on September 2. Afterwards, it will be accessible all over the world through the digital streaming platform Prime Video, which is only available to Amazon Prime subscribers.

According to the information revealed today, Amazon will pay a record amount for the new Lord of the Rings series. Even just season 1 has a 465 million dollars budget. In addition, the purchase of broadcasting rights cost 250 million dollars. That means more than 700 million dollars has been paid so far.

The total box office revenue of the original trilogy was 2.92 billion dollars. But the total budget of the three was around 281 million dollars. So Amazon allocated a budget of 5 movies only for the first season. In addition, according to the agreement, at least 5 seasons will be filmed and the 2nd season has already been approved.

When the images of the series were first shared, there were some question marks in people’s minds. Will we focus on only some characters here, or will we be able to see tens, maybe hundreds of characters? And will the background characters be real or will they be computer-generated?

In our opinion, all question marks have disappeared with the budget that is obvious today. Because it turned out that Amazon consumed half of the budget expected to allocate for 5 seasons for the first season. So no expense will be spared. Therefore, expectations have increased.

To give an example as a comparison with other movies and series, Marvel’s latest movies cost an average of 350 million dollars. Game of Thrones cost per episode was around 15 million dollars. That equates to around 120 million dollars for an 8-episode season. There is no doubt that Amazon has outdone itself in every way.
