The AMD Ryzen 8000HX series will make its debut in the laptop segment with the new generation of mobile processors called “Dragon Range Refresh”. Although it has not been officially announced yet, the most powerful model of the series, Ryzen 9 8940HX, has been seen on online listings and some technical details have emerged.

Ryzen 8000HX mobile processors will be introduced

The new Ryzen 8000HX family is basically based on the current Ryzen 7000HX series and offers minor innovations rather than a major leap in architecture. Ryzen 9 8940HX will come with Zen 4 architecture, 16 cores and 32 threads. The most striking difference is that it offers a 100 MHz higher boost frequency compared to its predecessor, the 7940HX.

There will be no revolutionary innovations in the integrated graphics unit of the processor. The 8000HX series also comes with an RDNA 2-based iGPU and only has two GPU cores. This means that the device will not be able to compete with powerful iGPU solutions like the Strix Halo in terms of graphics performance. However, it will be quite sufficient for basic imaging and light tasks.

The series is expected to be introduced in the coming weeks and will be included in high-end gaming laptops equipped with RTX 50 series GPUs. Since the performance difference is limited, it will be important for AMD to offer this series at a competitive price.
