Google has added a ‘hardware diagnostic tool’ to the Android 15 beta version, allowing users to easily diagnose hardware issues on their smartphones or tablets. This tool enables users to check whether the main components of their devices are functioning correctly and identify potential problems before contacting technical support.
New hardware diagnostic tool with Android 15 beta 3
The presence of the hardware diagnostic tool was discovered by Android Authority in the latest beta version of Android 15. The tool is not enabled by default but can be activated manually by navigating to Settings > System > Device Diagnostics. The hardware diagnostic tool consists of two main sections: Component Health and Evaluation Mode.
Component Health: In this section, users can manually test components such as the screen, touchscreen, battery, and storage memory.
- Screen: Issues like dead pixels, light leakage, or color distortions can be checked.
- Battery: Information such as remaining capacity, manufacturing date, first use date, and charge cycle count is displayed.
- Storage Memory: The remaining life and total capacity of the storage memory can be checked.
Evaluation Mode: This mode requires the use of another compatible device for more complex tests. The evaluation process involves scanning a QR code and may include internet access for some tests.
This hardware diagnostic tool provides a general overview of the device’s overall health, making it easier to identify potential issues with the screen, battery, or memory. Thus, unnecessary service visits can be avoided. While similar functions are offered by third-party applications, the integration of this tool into the operating system provides a significant advantage.
Google’s move aims to help users better manage their device’s health and find more efficient solutions by detecting potential problems in advance. This new feature in Android 15 will improve the user experience and help minimize the need for technical service.
