The best-selling Android smartphone in the second quarter of 2025 comes from Samsung, even as Apple continues to hold the overall crown. According to Counterpoint Research, iPhone models once again dominated the global rankings, while Samsung secured the highest Android spot with its popular mid-range Galaxy A16 5G.
iPhone 16 series secures the top 3 positions

Apple’s iPhone 16 was the most popular smartphone worldwide from April to June, repeating its first-quarter success. The iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro followed in second and third place. Despite premium prices, these flagships remain highly sought-after, showing Apple’s grip on the global market.
Samsung Galaxy A16 5G is named the best-selling Android smartphone
In fourth place overall, the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G claimed the title of best-selling Android smartphone. Its winning formula combines:
- A relatively affordable price
- Solid performance powered by the Exynos 1330
- Gorilla Glass Victus durability
- Six years of major Android updates
This mix has made it particularly attractive to budget-conscious buyers who still want a reliable, future-proof device.
Other Android smartphone models in the global top 10
Samsung’s Galaxy A06 4G followed in fifth place, while the Galaxy S25 Ultra stood out as the only Android flagship to break into the top 10. Beyond Samsung, the Xiaomi Redmi 14C 4G also made the list, driven by its ultra-low pricing in regions like Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.
Shift from iPhone 15 to iPhone 16e
The only major shakeup from Q1 to Q2 came on Apple’s side. The iPhone 15 dropped out, replaced by the newer iPhone 16e. Despite being cheaper, the 16e uses Apple’s faster A18 chip, making it an easy upgrade option. Buyers do sacrifice features such as an ultra-wide-angle camera and MagSafe, but the lower cost outweighs these drawbacks.
