As you know, all new and relatively new vehicles have many features such as collision prevention, sudden braking, lane keeping, and fatigue monitoring. We only use these features. Of course, we don’t even guess that data is being recorded in the background. It seems that automobile manufacturers record all your movements thanks to software.

Today, GM, which is being sued in Texas for selling this data to insurance companies, is alleged to record situations such as sudden braking, fatigue detection, and lane departure and transmit them to insurance companies. In this case, the level of trust that insurance companies have in drivers changes and the insurance price applied also changes.

General Motors, which is said to have recorded and transmitted the data of more than 14 million people to insurance companies since 2015, is accused of selling the data of 1.8 million people in Texas. The attorney general who is handling the issue makes the following statement:

“Our investigation revealed that General Motors engaged in egregious business practices that violated the privacy of Texans and violated the law. We will hold them accountable. Companies are using intrusive technology to violate the rights of our citizens in unthinkable ways. Millions of American drivers wanted to buy a car, not a comprehensive surveillance system that illegally records information about every drive they make and sells their data to any company willing to pay for it.”
