Qualcomm, one of the successful players in the mobile processor market, officially introduced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in an event held recently. This chip has been the subject of leaks and rumors for quite some time, and it comes with significant improvements compared to its predecessor. When looking at performance tests, this chipset boasts features that will greatly enhance smartphone performance. Furthermore, three models that will use the new chip have also been revealed.
New models to come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
Asus officially announced that the upcoming ROG Phone 8 series will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. The new series is expected to include the ROG Phone 8, ROG Phone 8 Pro, and ROG Phone 8 Ultimate models. The exact launch date for this series is not yet confirmed, but considering this announcement, users may not have to wait for too long.
Qualcomm continues its collaboration with TSMC for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This chip is manufactured using a 4nm architecture and features 1 Cortex-X4 core at 3.3 GHz, 3 Cortex-A720 cores at 3.2 GHz, 2 Cortex-A720 cores at 3.0 GHz, and 2 Cortex-A520 cores at 2.3 GHz. The new product also includes the Adreno 750 graphics unit with Ray Tracing support.
Compared to its predecessor, the new processor offers a 30% increase in performance, along with a 20% improvement in energy efficiency. In terms of graphics, it provides 25% faster image processing and 25% greater energy efficiency. Additionally, it offers a 40% better Ray Tracing performance.
The new processor will support 4K resolution at 60 Hz. Moreover, it can deliver a refresh rate of 144 Hz on QHD+ displays. The hardware also promises a high-quality user experience on the camera front, with support for up to 200 megapixels and the ability to record 8K HDR video at 30 FPS. There’s also hardware-based artificial intelligence to enhance camera performance. Finally, it offers support for up to 24 GB of LPDDR5X RAM at 4800 MHz.
