Apple shipped about 1.5 million iPhones manufactured in India to the US before the tariffs went into effect. The shipment, which weighed 600 tons in total, was made in order to avoid the 125% customs duty on Chinese products that went into effect in the US.
Apple transported tons of iPhones from India to the US
Apple has met with authorities to reduce customs clearance at Chennai Airport in India from 30 hours to six hours in order to speed up shipments. Since March, six cargo planes, each with a carrying capacity of 100 tons, have departed from India to the US.

In order to speed up production, Apple has also made production on Sundays at its Foxconn factory in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The additional shifts made on these normally holiday days have increased production by 20%.
Apple’s move was accelerated by the prediction that iPhone prices would increase in the US. Approximately 20% of the iPhones the company imports to the US now originate from India. The rest still comes from China. The Trump administration recently increased customs duties on imports from China to 125%.
Accordingly, the price of a $1,599 iPhone 16 Pro Max model in the US could go up to $2,300. In contrast, the 26% tariff applied to imports from India is currently on hold for 90 days.
Apple’s shipments in India have increased not only in terms of quantity but also in terms of value. In January, the total value of Foxconn’s shipments to the US reached $770 million. This figure was $331 million in December and $110 million in November.
Apple will continue to make major investments in India in line with its plans to reduce its dependence on China. So what do you think about this? You can share your views with us in the comments section below.
