As the new year rapidly approaches, it brings with it the rumored new MacBook models expected to launch in early 2026. While no official details are available yet, rumors suggest the new models will be unveiled in the new year. Here are the models on the way.
M5 MacBook Air: Same Design, New Processor
Apple’s most popular Mac is getting an update in early 2026. The next-generation MacBook Air will come with the M5 chip, but not much else is known about it. The M5 MacBook Air is expected to feature the same design as the M4 model and retain the 13-inch and 15-inch sizes. We may see a new color to replace the sky blue and possibly a few minor improvements. The M4 model was released in early March this year, and a similar February-March timeframe is expected for the new model.

While the M5 MacBook Pro was recently released, only a 14-inch model is currently available, and there are no Pro or Max chip options yet. Early next year, Apple is expected to release higher-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models featuring the more powerful M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. As with the current M5 model, the main chip upgrade is expected in these models, along with faster SSD performance and higher memory bandwidth.
For those considering a new MacBook Pro, it’s worth noting that Apple is working on a completely redesigned model with the M6 chip, which could arrive in late 2026.
Earlier this year, the M4 MacBook Air lowered its starting price to $999, making it one of Apple’s best value-for-money offerings. However, in early 2026, Apple will likely release an even more affordable Mac model, likely simply called “MacBook.”
The rumored features of this “MacBook” model include:
- 12.9-inch display
- A18 Pro chip
- Colors: May include silver, blue, pink, and yellow.
- Price: Around $599 or $699.
While the Mac is a fairly mature platform, Apple understands that many iPhone users still prefer a PC or Chromebook to a Mac. This lower-cost MacBook could potentially change that.
