The iOS 26.4 Update has sparked controversy within the company. Apple is preparing to introduce the long-awaited revamped Siri experience with iOS 26.4. However, according to insiders, this transformation hasn’t been entirely satisfactory. According to a report by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, some Apple engineers believe the new Siri hasn’t yet met expectations. They allege shortcomings in key areas such as accuracy, stability, and response time.
The New Siri Will Be “Smarter”
Apple announced at WWDC 2024 that the new version of Siri, unveiled at WWDC 2024, will be capable of understanding not only voice commands but also contextual meaning. The new Siri will be able to understand the content on the iPhone’s screen and understand what the user is talking about. For example, if a user is discussing family plans in the Mail or Messages app, Siri can use that information to answer questions like, “What time is Mom’s flight?”
The new system will also enable direct voice control of in-app actions. This means users will be able to complete actions like “Edit Photos” or “Add Notes” without opening an app. Apple aims to transform Siri into not just a virtual assistant but the device’s internal intelligence.
However, some Apple employees believe the system is still not stable enough in real-world scenarios. Siri’s deep context understanding can sometimes produce inaccurate results. This raises questions within Apple about whether the update will be released in spring 2026 as planned.
Nevertheless, the company still has several months of development time left. iOS 26.4 is expected to be released in March or April 2026. During this time, Apple plans to reduce Siri’s error rate and improve its stability by expanding its test data.
The new Siri will form the heart of the Apple Intelligence ecosystem. Therefore, this update is not just a software innovation but a critical milestone in Apple’s vision for artificial intelligence.
