The code name used by the teams working on Apple’s iOS 19 version has been determined as “Solarium.” This information, revealed during Mark Gurman’s Q&A session, seemed at first glance to provide a clue about the design language of the new version. However, past examples show that Apple’s code names are not directly related to the final version.
Apple chooses code name for iOS 19
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the word Solarium means “a veranda or room covered in glass.” Along with the frosted glass-effect visuals used by Apple for the WWDC 2025 event and the user interface changes stated to be inspired by Vision Pro, this code name was interpreted by some as a sign of iOS 19’s design. However, when we look at the code names Apple has determined for past versions, it is seen that they do not have a direct meaning.

Apple has officially determined the code name for the highly anticipated iOS 19 version.
According to the information that emerged, iOS 18 was codenamed “Crystal” and iOS 17 was codenamed “Dawn”. While the name “Peace” was used for iOS 12, iOS 7 was named “Innsbruck” despite coming with a major interface change.
Although it is known that Apple used winter holiday resorts as inspiration for naming, it is emphasized that these codenames are determined at the beginning of the development process and generally do not have a direct connection to the final version.
Although it is thought that Apple gives clues about design changes in WWDC graphics, the codenames have not contained any information for a long time. Considering the company’s privacy policies, it is not expected to place important details about the new version directly in the codename.
