Apple has begun rolling out the software updates for its recently announced new iPhone series. With the latest update to Final Cut, it now offers full support for the new camera features of the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and iPhone 17 Pro. Here’s the update released for Final Cut Pro.
Professional Solutions with ProRes RAW and Genlock
The new iPhones, specifically the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, introduced at Apple’s “Awe Dropping” event last week, offer new software and hardware features aimed at everyone from amateurs to professionals who shoot video.

One of these features, Center Stage, is available on all new iPhones, including the base iPhone 17. Using the front camera’s square sensor, it automatically rotates the video format to landscape orientation without requiring the user to physically rotate the phone. This eliminates the risk of dropping the phone, especially when shooting video.
The iPhone 17 Pro takes video production even further. The device comes with ProRes RAW support, providing greater flexibility and control in post-production. Genlock support has also been added, allowing professional video creators to use techniques like time-slicing and even the famous “bullet-time” effect. However, this feature requires additional hardware.
With these important features, Apple has also updated its creative video apps like Compressor and Motion. The most significant of these updates are Final Cut Pro for Mac, Final Cut Pro for iPad, and Final Cut Camera for iPhone.
