Apple, as is known, has struggled to establish itself in the AI sector due to insufficient efforts and had shifted its focus to collaborating with existing leaders in the field. According to a new report, Apple has decided against its previously planned investment in OpenAI and will not be proceeding with the investment. Here are the details…
Apple Will Not Join OpenAI’s Funding Round
OpenAI is organizing a funding round and expects participation from several companies. Apple had initially held discussions regarding an investment in OpenAI last month, and it was known that discussions had also taken place regarding Apple Intelligence. While the exact amount of Apple’s potential investments is unknown, the new report indicates that Apple is no longer engaged in talks to participate in the funding round, meaning they do not plan to join.
As OpenAI prepares for a $6.5 billion funding round with potential investments from both Microsoft and Nvidia, Apple’s decision not to participate has sparked discussions and changes within the company. Former Apple design chief Jony Ive announced he is working with OpenAI to design an AI product.
The report states:
“Apple is no longer in discussions to participate in the OpenAI funding round expected to raise $6.5 billion. This will mark a rare withdrawal from making an investment in another major company in Silicon Valley. According to an informed source, Apple recently pulled out of discussions to be part of the round scheduled to conclude next week.”
According to previous reports, the tech giant has not made any payments to OpenAI and continues to work on integrating ChatGPT into iOS 18. The reason for not making a payment is believed to be that the iOS 18 integration is considered to hold equal or greater value than the payment.
