The Apple Podcasts app has unfortunately faced a serious decline in popularity as competing platforms gain more space. According to the report published by Cumulus Media and Signal Hill Insights, the platform is unfortunately no longer a favorite of users. Instead, it turns out that users are more interested in YouTube and Spotify apps. Here are the details…
YouTube takes the lead in the most popular podcast apps
According to the survey, YouTube is currently the platform with the largest market share. Thirty-one percent of users state that YouTube is their main choice. On the other hand, 21 percent of respondents say their favorite podcast player is Spotify.
Apple’s popular podcast service fell to third place in this category with a 12 percent market share. For comparison, the scenario in 2019 was completely different. At that time, 29 percent of users preferred Apple’s podcast app.
One of the reasons why the Apple Podcasts application faces a serious loss in market share is considered to be the inability to use the platform on Android and Windows devices. Unfortunately, this leads to a significant decline in the popularity of the application. For example, the web version of the platform was recently launched. However, there is still no app support for devices with the Google system.
Nevertheless, Apple is working to change this situation. The company aims to grow by investing more in original podcasts. However, it remains to be seen whether this will be enough for Apple Podcasts to catch up with competitors like Spotify and YouTube.
