Apple has released a new firmware update for its AirTag item tracker. The update, version 2.0.36 with build number 2A36, comes ahead of the anticipated release of iOS 16.2. It is currently unclear what changes are included in the update, as Apple has not yet released update notes.
AirTag firmware update brings no noticeable changes
The previous AirTag firmware, version 2.0.24 with build number 2A24e, was released on November 10. However, it is also unknown what changes were made in that update. Earlier this year, Apple updated the AirTag firmware to improve the sound used to locate an unknown AirTag.
To check the firmware version of your AirTag, open the Find My app on your iPhone and select the Items tab at the bottom of the screen. Choose your AirTag from the list of items and tap on its name to view the serial number and firmware version.
AirTag firmware updates are rolled out gradually, so it may take some time for your AirTag to receive the latest update. If you notice any changes after updating, let us know in the comments.
How to use Apple AirTag
To use AirTag, you will need an iPhone or iPad with the latest version of iOS or iPadOS. First, open the Find My app on your device and select the Items tab at the bottom of the screen. Then, tap on the “+” icon in the top right corner to add a new AirTag to your account. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your AirTag with your device and give it a name.
Once your AirTag is paired and named, you can attach it to an item you want to track, such as a bag or a set of keys. To locate the item, open the Find My app and select the Items tab. Your AirTag should appear in the list of items. You can tap on its name to see its current location on a map.
If your AirTag is lost and out of range of your device, you can use the Find My network to help find it. Other Apple devices in the area can anonymously report the location of your AirTag back to you, and you will be notified when it is found.
You can also use the AirTag to find a lost device. Simply press and hold the button on the AirTag to make your device play a sound, even if it is in silent mode. This can be useful for locating a lost phone or tablet.
