According to reliable industry analysts, Apple is not planning to release the iPhone Air as an annual release. This also puts an end to the expectations of a 2026 iPhone Air 2, which has been rumored in tech circles. Apple appears to be taking a more cautious approach with this new series.
Why isn’t the iPhone Air 2 coming in 2026?
According to analysts, Apple is eager to see the market performance of its first iPhone Air, which it plans to release in 2025 (with the iPhone 17 series). The device’s success isn’t yet guaranteed. Therefore, the company won’t rush to release the iPhone Air 2 and hasn’t included it in its 2026 plans yet.

Reports indicate that if the first model is successful, Apple could release an updated Air or a more affordable Pro model in 2026 (with the iPhone 18 series). The iPhone Air aims to replace the current “Plus” model, creating a more distinct option between the standard and Pro models. Apple also hopes to replicate the Air brand’s success with MacBooks and iPads on its phones.
Analysts also shared other predictions for the iPhone 18 series. These include a smaller dynamic island or punch-hole display design thanks to under-display Face ID technology. However, for now, the future of the iPhone Air series appears entirely dependent on the market success of the first model.
