Apple will unveil a series of new products next month, including the iPhone 15 series, and production of the iPhone 15 family in India has finally begun. According to industry sources, Apple has raised curiosity by starting production in India earlier than usual.
Foxconn opens India factories early for iPhone 15 production
Foxconn, Apple’s main iPhone manufacturing partner, began production of the iPhone 15 series in China earlier this month. Weeks later, it finalized preparations for assembling the new models at its Indian facility. This is curiously earlier than last year’s production schedule in India, which started in November.
According to March 2023 data, about 7 percent of the iPhone 14 series was produced in India. This is expected to increase with the iPhone 15 series, as Apple aims to reduce its dependence on China and increase its production capacity in India.
On the other hand, other Apple suppliers such as Pegatron and Wistron have put their facilities in India up for sale. Tata Group will take over their iPhone production in India.
Increasing production in India allows Apple to diversify its supply chain. This prevents potential inventory problems and also helps to maintain balance in the US-China economic war.
The iPhone 15 series is expected to include four models. Smartphones will feature the A16 Bionic chip, which will stand out with its energy efficiency. It is also reported that it will have 6 GB of RAM and will come with 128 GB / 256 GB and 512 GB storage. The next generation iPhones will use a USB-C port instead of Lightning for the first time.
