Bloomberg’s renowned technology writer Mark Gurman shared Apple’s future plans. Rather than offering flashy new features to users with the iOS 27 update, the company will focus on improving the system’s fundamental stability.
The iOS 27 update will bring stability
According to Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter, Apple will follow a “no-frills Snow Leopard” strategy this cycle. The tech giant last followed a similar path with iOS 12.
Engineers are aiming to reduce bloat and clean up bugs in the operating system. Efficiency will also be a priority on other platforms such as macOS 27, iPadOS 27, and tvOS 27.
Despite this stability-focused approach, Apple will also introduce some new features. Siri will undergo a visual overhaul with a new avatar resembling the Finder icon.
The company is also developing an AI-based search tool called “World Knowledge Answers.” This feature will allow Siri to provide summarized answers instead of traditional links.
The revamped Health app will offer AI-powered personal health coaching. Users will be able to track their nutrition and access expert videos explaining their health.
Meanwhile, Apple plans to use a massive Gemini AI model with 1.2 trillion parameters to power its cloud-based Siri. Google will reportedly be paid approximately $1 billion annually for this technology.
