Apple Watch files a patent application for the “digital lifeguard” feature
The feature can detect abnormal swimming behaviors by monitoring the swimmer’s movements and heart rate using various sensors on the Apple Watch, indicating potential drowning risk.
The alert can be sent to the user’s Apple Watch or a drowning detection system in the pool, notifying lifeguards. The Apple Watch can also warn inexperienced swimmers if they enter the deep end of the pool.
Is Apple Watch getting Android support?
This feature can determine swimming motions and expected heart rate during normal swimming by utilizing sensors like the accelerometer, gyroscope, GPS, and heart rate monitor on the Apple Watch. Also, abnormalities in sensor data can indicate that a person may be in danger.
Currently, at the patent stage, there’s no clear information on the timeline and implementation of this lifeguard feature. If Apple develops this feature rapidly, it might be introduced at WWDC in June this year.
