Mike Gomez, a resident of Texas, purchased the device with the intention of taking advantage of the Apple Watch’s health features. But in January, the Apple Watch sent Gomez a notification that may have saved his life. The device alerted him to a high heart rate and then sent him five different atrial fibrillation (Afib) notifications.
Apple Watch saves lives again!
Atrial fibrillation is a condition that causes the upper chambers of the heart to beat irregularly. This condition can cause clots to form inside the heart and increase the risk of heart attack, stroke or heart failure.

According to the American Heart Association, more than five million Americans have the condition. Although Gomez did not experience any other symptoms, she took the reports seriously and consulted a doctor. During the examination, it was determined that he had severe atrial fibrillation.
As February is Heart Health Month, experts point out that individuals should monitor their health and give importance to heart health. Technological devices also play an important role in health monitoring. As we have seen in many examples, Apple Watch offers its users various health features such as heart rhythm monitoring, sleep tracking, activity measurement and collision detection.
It is known that Apple Watch has previously warned its users in similar cases and saved lives. It was recently reported that a person trapped in an upside-down vehicle after a car accident was saved thanks to the collision detection feature.
Apple CEO Tim Cook also stated that Apple Watch plays a critical role for his family. In another incident in Florida, a person managed to call for help using the ‘Hey Siri’ feature after being paralysed.
