According to the latest information, Samsung Display has started investing in Gen 8 OLED panels. As a result, the South Korean manufacturer plans to produce an OLED screen with advanced technology for the MacBook Pro by 2025. Samsung will thus begin production of Gen 8 OLED panels at least one year ahead of its competitors.

Following Samsung’s initiative, it is likely that LG and BOE will also take action in the production of next-generation OLED screens. Currently, manufacturers are producing Gen 6 OLED screens for devices like the iPhone. Eighth-generation screens are manufactured in larger sizes, 2200x2500mm instead of 1500x1850mm. Screens used in devices like the iPhone and MacBook Pro are later cut from these larger panels. A larger OLED panel can yield a MacBook Pro-sized screen.
With its latest move, Samsung plans to outpace its biggest competitors in MacBook Pro screen production. With the introduction of Gen 8 OLED production, Samsung will become the sole producer for the MacBook Pro. It seems that Apple will be forced to rely on Samsung for MacBook Pro screens following these developments.
