TEI (Tusaş Engine Industries) Chairman Fahrettin Öztürk made important statements during a Chat Room broadcast on the X platform. Öztürk shared the latest status regarding the engines to be procured from the United States for the HÜRJET training aircraft and the National Combat Aircraft (KAAN).
Approval granted for HÜRJET engine
Öztürk announced that the US Congress has approved the purchase of the GE Aerospace F404 engines to be used in the HÜRJET training aircraft. This has confirmed the engine supply for the HÜRJET project.

The process for the GE Aerospace F110 engines to be used in the KAAN fighter jet is ongoing. Fahrettin Öztürk stated that there are currently no rejections for the F110 engine.
Öztürk said, “This process is ongoing for KAAN. So, as far as we know, there are no rejections for the F110 engine at the moment. So, there’s no such thing as, ‘We don’t have an engine, we can’t produce KAAN.’”
Four prototypes of the National Combat Aircraft KAAN with F-110 engines are being produced. Seven more prototypes are planned for production next year. The production phase of the project is progressing as planned.
The F110 engine will be used in 20 KAAN aircraft, planned to be produced in 2027 and delivered in 2028. Production of these aircraft will require approval from the US or the use of engines from alternative manufacturers.
Meanwhile, the domestically produced TF35000 engine is being developed for KAAN in collaboration with TEI and TRMOTOR. The engine is expected to be integrated into KAAN in 2032. Indonesia has ordered 48 KAANs as part of the project.
Since the aircraft to be delivered to Indonesia will use the TF35000 engine, the current F110 engine wait will not negatively impact this order. What are your thoughts on this? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
