A new artificial intelligence has emerged that some of us will gladly want to try, while others will want to stay away with grief. The artificial intelligence produced as part of the Synthetic Memories project uses your memories to produce images.
The project aims to recover people’s lost memories
As an ongoing part of the Synthetic Memories project, this initiative aims to help people recover lost memories.
The Synthetic Memories project is an initiative of Domestic Data Streamers, which aims to change the way we remember important moments in our lives. The project uses artificial intelligence to create a permanent image of memories that are not photographed.
Using data from a person’s brain and AI models, the team leading the project can create a lifelike memory photo of the event. This photo provides an image of the event that appears to have been captured in real time.
The photos use older AI models, such as the DALL-E 2, which means that some imperfections can be found in the photos. But the project team believes that these older models capture blurry and vague aspects of the memory, where sometimes we don’t remember the finer details.
One of the project’s latest works captures the memories of 84-year-old Maria. Maria, who lives in Barcelona, shared with the team vivid memories of trying to visit her father in prison.
Using data from Maria’s mind, a memory photo was created on the balcony where she tried to see her father. The founder of Domestic Data Streamers says that this photo represents the right memory because it elicited a very real response from Maria.
The project worries that OpenAI and other AI companies may retire their oldest models. This is because these older models sometimes include imperfections in the photos that human memories present. If this happens, the project will have to use newer models, which could affect the realism of memories.
This initiative is just one example of the potential of artificial intelligence to retrieve and visualize human memories. What do you think? Please do not forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
