It’s been 7 years since Assassin’s Creed Origins came out, and it’s possible to say that it’s a game that fans of the series are still holding on to. Players liked the main characters of the game, Aya and Bayek, so much that they have been waiting for sequel from Ubisoft for years. The actors portraying these two characters seem to agree.
Assassin’s Creed Origins actors say they want a sequel
Assassin’s Creed Origins actors Abubakar Salim and Alix Wilton Regan have expressed their desire for a sequel that continues the story of Aya and Bayek.
Salim jokingly stated that he would have to “open a studio himself” to make an Assassin’s Creed Origins sequel. Regan also stated that Aya and Bayek’s story is “unfinished”.
Assassin’s Creed Origins follows Aya and Bayek as they seek revenge for the murder of their son. Both characters’ memories are animated by Layla Hassan using an altered Animus device. Bayek is the protagonist of Origins, while Aya plays a supporting role.
One of the reasons Regan considers Aya’s story “unfinished” is described in a Bloomberg story published three years after the game’s release. In the article, Aya is described as actually having a much larger role in the game, and that Bayek was planned to be killed in the middle of the game.
However, this scenario was canceled by a Ubisoft executive who argued that the series should have a male lead.
Bayek and Aya’s story continued in the DLC released for Origins. Hidden Ones told the story of the pair traveling to Sinai to repel the Roman invasion of the region, while The Curse of the Pharaohs told Bayek’s story as he tries to find the Shards of the Prophets and stop the gods of Egypt from reincarnating. These DLCs allowed players to delve deeper into the story of Aya and Bayek.
Salim and Regan’s requests have caused a stir among fans and pressure is expected to be put on Ubisoft to make a sequel possible.
