One of the long-awaited questions of Avatar fans is finally being answered: Who would win in a fight between Aang and Korra? A surprise announcement at New York Comic Con officially unveiled a new fighting game that will answer this question. Tentatively titled “Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game,” the game will be released in the summer of 2026.
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will feature 12 playable characters
Developed by Gameplay Group International, the game’s first images reveal that the project is still in its early development stages, but they offer important clues about the game’s core dynamics. Featuring a hand-drawn 2D art style, the game will focus on one-on-one combat reminiscent of classic fighting games like Street Fighter. Players will be able to choose their favorite characters from the Avatar universe and compete against each other.

According to the Steam page, the game will offer 12 playable characters at launch, and this number will be expanded with seasonal updates. The development team states that they designed the game to reflect the spirit of classic fighting games. The game, which aims to deliver a fluid, responsive, and stable online experience, will also feature innovations such as a unique fighting mechanic called the “flow system” and support characters that trigger special moves.
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, which will offer cross-platform support, is being developed for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. In addition to competitive modes, the game will also feature combo challenges, a gallery mode, and a single-player story mode with original content. This project is also promising for fans because it’s being developed by a different studio than the team that developed the previously critically acclaimed “Avatar: The Last Airbender – Quest for Balance.”
