Elon Musk has publicly stated that a merger between Tesla and his artificial intelligence startup, xAI, is not on the agenda. A user on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) asked Tesla investors, “Do you support a Tesla-xAI merger?” Musk responded directly, “No.” This statement comes amid discussions about the potential integration between the two companies.
Musk doesn’t want a merger between Tesla and xAI
Musk has previously stated that any potential investment in xAI would require shareholder approval. To this end, he conducted a poll on X, asking his followers if Tesla would invest $5 billion in xAI. The majority of those surveyed supported the idea. However, Musk’s latest statement suggests that even if the companies do invest or share technology, it won’t lead to a formal merger.

xAI remains one of Musk’s most notable initiatives in the field of artificial intelligence. The company is trying to compete with leading systems like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini with its chatbot, Grok.
However, Grok has recently received intense criticism for anti-Semitic responses and statements praising Adolf Hitler. Following the incident, the company publicly apologized and announced that fixes have been implemented.
Tesla is taking steps to integrate Grok into in-car systems. This integration aims to provide AI assistance to users during non-driving situations. However, Musk’s statements suggest that he prefers to keep xAI and Tesla’s relationship at the strategic level. A corporate merger between the companies is not on the agenda.
