The legendary Grand Theft Auto (GTA) trilogy has been enhanced for PC thanks to SilentPatch, which has been made open-source in celebration of San Andreas’ 20th anniversary. This major project, which fixes numerous issues in the PC versions of GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas, promises a whole new experience for players.
GTA series gets fixed with SilentPatch
Silent, the developer behind this patch, is well-known for his excellent fixes for games like Crazy Taxi and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. His SilentPatch for the GTA trilogy resolves many PC-specific issues that weren’t present in the console versions. It’s important to note that this patch is developed for the original PC versions, not for the Definitive Edition.
The latest update includes general fixes such as resolving the issue of cars exploding twice when they catch fire, restoring the PS2 feature where drivers turn on their headlights in rain and fog, and ensuring that metallic vehicles now reflect light correctly. Additionally, texts and mission completion messages that used to slow down at high resolutions now scroll at the correct speed.
Furthermore, there are individual fixes for each game: In GTA 3, the latest patch resolves the issue where Claude sinks into the boat while driving, and fixes the animations of pedestrians escaping from vehicles. In Vice City, visual bugs like invisible windows and issues with Tommy’s collar have been corrected. Lastly, in San Andreas, improvements have been made to the jetpack controls on the keyboard, and mysterious black dots, which turned out to be shooting stars, have been fixed.
The project’s open-source release allows community developers to contribute to the patch, further enhancing the PC experience of the GTA trilogy. The patches for each game can be downloaded separately, with different installation instructions depending on the platform where the games were purchased.
