For the first time in Call of Duty history, the end of a campaign will flow straight into a live multiplayer battle. Sources claim Black Ops 7’s last mission unfolds on Avalon — a sprawling 32-player map originally built for battle royale.
Avalon takes center stage in Black Ops 7
Avalon was once pitched as a Warzone-sized arena, but insiders say it’s now locked in as the twelfth and final mission of Black Ops 7’s campaign. The map’s key POIs will appear during the story, playable in up to 4-player co-op, before the entire battlefield opens up for the finale.
The mission itself sounds closer to an extraction shooter than a traditional set piece. Squads will chase objectives, fight for survival, and extract before time runs out. Get wiped, and you’ll lose your character’s progress entirely.
Hardcore stakes meet full progression integration
This fusion of campaign and multiplayer isn’t just a gimmick — it ties into Black Ops 7’s all-mode progression. Weapons, operators, and even the Battle Pass will advance whether you’re in campaign, multiplayer, or zombies.
In other words, a story mission could still unlock new loadout options for your competitive matches, and vice versa.
Will Avalon be free-to-play bait?
It’s unclear if Avalon will be exclusive to the premium campaign or made available in special events. The setup could make it a prime candidate for free-to-play weekends, drawing new players into the paid experience. Call of Duty has pulled similar stunts before, but it rarely needs extra bait to fill lobbies.
Zombies, multiplayer reveal coming soon
Avalon won’t be the only thing in the spotlight. Activision plans to drop more campaign, zombies, and multiplayer details on Aug. 19, with the full multiplayer showcase at Gamescom Opening Night Live.
Could Avalon make the Warzone jump?
No confirmation yet, but Avalon’s scale and design seem ripe for a Warzone conversion. If that happens, Black Ops 7’s grand finale might also become its most-played map.
Black Ops has always blurred lines between modes — Avalon could erase them entirely.
