At CES 2025, BMW unveiled the final version of its long-awaited and innovative Panoramic iDrive System. The system combines an unusually angled touchscreen, a head-up display (HUD) that extends across the windshield and an AI-powered assistant. According to BMW, this technology will be standard on all future BMW models. Details in the news…
BMW’s Panoramic iDrive System offers AI-powered features
First of all, the new Panoramic iDrive System offers BMW’s most comprehensive user interface to date. At the center of the system is a curved touchscreen. At the bottom of this screen is a static control bar, giving the driver quick access to many important features, from the heating system to navigation.
At the bottom of the windshield, a screen called Panoramic Vision displays traditional indicators such as speed and safety warnings. It also offers six customizable widgets. It can display information such as temperature, estimated time of arrival and turn-by-turn directions. BMW guarantees that this technology will work clearly even in bright sunlight.
An additional HUD on the top provides the driver with 3D navigation information, making it possible to receive information from three separate sources while navigating. This ensures that the driver never misses a turn. In addition, the Panoramic iDrive System comes with an AI-supported navigation system. For example, during the demo, the system quickly performed tasks such as finding the best beach and adjusting the navigation. The system also offers features such as automatically activating Sport Mode when leaving the city.
BMW has also confirmed continued support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and hinted that this technology will be further enhanced to include more passenger involvement in the future. BMW also revealed that with the introduction of the new Panoramic iDrive System, the use of the old rotary iDrive controller is rapidly declining and will soon be phased out completely.
The Panoramic iDrive System will be launched with the Neue Klasse models at the end of 2025 and will be a standard feature on all new BMW models from then on. How do you think BMW’s system will change the driving experience? Share your thoughts in the comments section below…
